Mymensingh, New Divisional City of Bangladesh

Mymensingh city is the capital of Mymesingh division. The former name of Mymensingh was Nasirabad. This city is located about 130 km north from Dhaka, which is the capital of Bangladesh. Mymensingh is situated on the bank of Brahmaputra river. Mymensingh has border with Himalayan state of India. From 2015, Mymensingh has become the 8th administrative headquarters of Bangladesh. Mymensingh is the major financial centre of north central part of Bangladesh.The ancient name of Mymesingh was Momenshahi, reffering to a ruler called Momen Shah.



The area of this city is 71 square km and has a population of 158,9,918. Mymensingh is noted for it's educational institutions like Bangladesh Agricultural University, Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Medical and Engineering college, a cadet college (which is for girls).
