Sylhet City, Bangladesh

Sylhet, ( ancient name was Jalalabad ) is the 4th largest and a metropolitan city in northeastern Bangladesh. This city is located at the bank of Surma river. Sylhet is one of the most important cities of Bangladesh after Dhaka and Chittagong due to it's importance on the country's economy. Sylhet is also a popular tourist destination of Bangladesh. Sylhet is famous for it's cane products, tea and also produces liquefied petroleum gas (propane).


The area of the city is 26.50 square km with a population of 800,000. Sylhet has an international airport. It is the home of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. Sylhet was the capital on 14th century during Raja Gaur Gobind and later served as muslim cultural centre. Shah Jalal mosque and several  muslim saint's tombs are the historical sites of Sylhet.
