Rajshahi, The Silk City of Bangladesh

Rajshahi is the capital of Rajshahi division, situated in the northwestern Bangladesh. Former name of Rajshahi was Rampur Boalia. This city is located on the north bank of Padma river. The total area of Rajshahi city is 96.70 square km with a population of 765,950. This city has a domestic airport called Shah Makhdum Airport.


Today Rajshahi is an important administrative, educational, cultural and business center of Bangladesh. This city is home of many educational institutions like Rajshai University, Medical and Engineering College.  Rajshahi is also  historically renowned for silk production and for this reason this city is called the silk city of Bangladesh. In 2006, Rajshahi city was declared as the happiest city in the world by World Happiness Survey.
